In the beginning of this site, we had a 'code' : when someone says 'nh', we answer 'ty'.
It seems that nowadays this just courtesy behaviour is about to disappear. :( Maybe, by denouncing these not very respectful players publicly, that will be enough to restore the habit. So there is one : ran8204 Please free to add any ppls u see like him... |

at 1:15 AM, Friday May 11, 2007 EDT I can't believe I am responding to this post but it screams out for me to do so. Making up a list of people who don't say "thank you" when someone says "nice hand" is preposterous! It's hard to believe that someone would get that offended over a not getting a "thank you" while playing a game. Then to think that by listing the “no thank you people by their name will somehow miraculously change their behavior is baffling. That would no more change them then if we listed all people who keep going all in on every hand no matter what cards they have. It just won’t stop them. The root of this so-called problem is not in the “no thank you people but it’s in the “nice hand people. The reason why you’re not getting your precious thank yous is because the phrase “nice hand (nh) or “very nice hand (vnh) are grossly overused for the winning hands that are played. How in the world can you say nh or vnh when my 2 pair beat some all inner for a pot of $300?? There’s nothing “nice or “very nice as a result of the outcome of that hand. I didn’t do anything special to win it. But time after time you will see that comment made at simple hands like that. You want to give me a “nice hand or a “very nice hand comment then give it to me after I’ve won a 150k pot because I had the other guy believing for the whole hand that he held the winning cards. Then and only then should a “thank you be issued. In closing please add me to your list since I also have not always said “thank you to every “nice hand sent my way.

at 1:23 AM, Sunday May 13, 2007 EDT @bv : this message was not intended to you, old and respectful ppl.. ;)
I KNOW the 'nh' became too 'usual'.. I just noticed the 'ty' became too 'rare'.. I agree that some 'nh' don't deserve a 'ty', but u should agree some 'ty' would be at least a polite answer in some cases. What made me post this thread : fh QJ, all-in on $100/$200 table... he/she had the fourth Q. Did it deserve a 'nh' ? Did it deserve a 'ty' ? |

at 9:44 AM, Sunday May 13, 2007 EDT I only ever say "NICE HAND" as a veiled insult.
It takes no skill to play a "NICE HAND". If I intend to compliment (rare here at idiotpokr) I might say "WELL PLAYED". Thank you. |
